TR High-Capacity 19-Row Oil Cooler Kit for TR-TS1053 / TR-TS1063 BRZ FR-S 86 GR86 Turbo Kits (TR-ES2053)

SKU - TR-ES2053
$940.00

Designed specifically as the high-capacity oil cooler solution for Tomioka Racing TR-TS1053 and TR-TS1063 Turbo Kit applications.

The Tomioka Racing TR-ES2053 High-Capacity 19-Row Oil Cooler Kit is primarily designed for Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, Toyota 86 / FT86, and Toyota GR86 vehicles equipped with the Tomioka Racing TR-TS1053 or TR-TS1063 Turbo Kit.

Turbocharging increases the thermal load placed on the engine during boost, spirited driving, track use, and extended high-load operation. The TR-ES2053 was developed to provide the additional engine oil cooling capacity recommended to complement the TR-TS1053 and TR-TS1063 turbo systems.

Compared with the standard TR-ES2040 16-row oil cooler kit, the TR-ES2053 features a larger 19-row oil cooler core for increased heat-dissipation capacity and uses a dedicated lower-left-side mounting configuration designed to work with compatible Tomioka Racing turbo kit installations.

The larger 19-row system adds approximately 0.40 qt (0.38 L) of additional oil capacity. The additional oil volume provides greater thermal capacity alongside the larger cooler core, making the TR-ES2053 particularly well suited for turbocharged applications operating under sustained load.

The TR-ES2053 also incorporates a temperature-controlled oil sandwich plate with a built-in 180°F thermostat. The thermostat keeps the external oil cooler bypassed during initial engine warm-up, begins opening at approximately 180°F, and is fully open at approximately 190–195°F as additional cooling is required.

Designed for TR Turbo Kit Applications

TR-ES2053 is the recommended Tomioka Racing oil cooler configuration for vehicles equipped with:

  • TR-TS1053 Turbo Kit
  • TR-TS1063 Turbo Kit

If your BRZ, FR-S, Toyota 86 / FT86, or GR86 is equipped with one of these Tomioka Racing turbo systems, the TR-ES2053 provides the larger-capacity oil cooling solution designed for the increased thermal demands of the turbocharged application.

Features

  • High-capacity 19-row oil cooler core
  • Adds approximately 0.40 qt (0.38 L) of oil capacity
  • Designed specifically to complement TR-TS1053 and TR-TS1063 Turbo Kits
  • Increased cooling capacity compared with the TR-ES2040 16-row oil cooler
  • Dedicated lower-left-side mounting configuration
  • Temperature-controlled oil cooling system
  • Built-in 180°F thermostat
  • Supports normal engine warm-up before activating additional oil cooling
  • Designed for turbocharged street, spirited driving, and track applications

Vehicle Fitment

  • 2013-2020 Subaru BRZ
  • 2013-2016 Scion FR-S
  • 2017-2020 Toyota 86 / FT86
  • 2022+ Subaru BRZ
  • 2022+ Toyota GR86

Compatible Tomioka Racing Turbo Kits

  • TR-TS1053 Turbo Kit
  • TR-TS1063 Turbo Kit

Primary Recommended Application: Vehicles equipped with the Tomioka Racing TR-TS1053 or TR-TS1063 Turbo Kit.

180°F Thermostatic Oil Control

The thermostatic oil sandwich plate allows the engine oil to warm up normally before additional cooling is introduced. The external cooler remains bypassed during initial warm-up, the thermostat begins opening at approximately 180°F, and is fully open around 190–195°F as engine oil temperature increases.

This is especially useful for turbocharged street vehicles because it provides normal warm-up behavior during everyday driving while making the additional cooling capacity of the 19-row core available during boost and sustained high-load operation.

TR-ES2053 vs. TR-ES2040

The TR-ES2040 features a compact 16-row oil cooler and approximately 0.30 qt (0.28 L) of additional oil capacity. It serves as Tomioka Racing's standard oil cooling solution for BRZ, FR-S, Toyota 86 / FT86, and GR86 applications.

The TR-ES2053 steps up to a larger 19-row oil cooler with approximately 0.40 qt (0.38 L) of additional oil capacity. It is specifically positioned for TR-TS1053 and TR-TS1063 turbocharged applications and uses a dedicated lower-left-side mounting configuration designed around these turbo systems.

TR-ES2040: Standard 16-row thermostatic oil cooler for naturally aspirated, street, performance, and general track applications.

TR-ES2053: High-capacity 19-row thermostatic oil cooler primarily intended for TR-TS1053 and TR-TS1063 turbo kit applications.

Oil Temp & Thermostat FAQ

Why did TR choose a 180°F thermostat?
The 180°F thermostat provides a balance between proper engine warm-up and performance cooling. The external cooler remains bypassed during initial warm-up, begins receiving oil flow at approximately 180°F, and the thermostat is fully open around 190–195°F as additional cooling is needed.
Why is additional oil cooling important on a turbocharged application?
Turbocharging increases the thermal load placed on the engine during boost and sustained high-load operation. The larger 19-row core and additional oil capacity of the TR-ES2053 help provide increased heat-management capacity for vehicles equipped with the TR-TS1053 or TR-TS1063 Turbo Kit.
Do I need a 200°F thermostat?
Usually no. A 200°F thermostat primarily delays oil flow through the external cooler. It does not increase the maximum cooling capacity of the 19-row oil cooler core and may result in higher steady-state oil temperatures.
Will a 180°F thermostat run too cool in winter?
Under normal conditions, no. The thermostat keeps the external cooler bypassed while the engine oil is warming up and only begins routing oil through the cooler as operating temperature increases.
What oil temperatures should I expect?
  • Cruise / mixed driving: approximately 185–215°F
  • Spirited driving or hot weather: approximately 210–240°F
  • Extended idling: oil temperatures may rise because airflow across the oil cooler is reduced
Actual oil temperature will vary based on boost level, tuning, ambient temperature, airflow, vehicle speed, oil selection, supporting modifications, and driving conditions.
Track use tips
Ensure clean and direct airflow to the 19-row cooler core, avoid hose kinks or restrictions, and recheck all fittings after initial installation and hard driving sessions. Monitor engine oil temperature and oil level during track use, particularly on turbocharged vehicles operating under sustained load.
