Why Tomioka Racing Chooses BMC Air Filters
A closer look at filtration in our GR86, BRZ, FR-S and Toyota 86 turbo kits.

At Tomioka Racing, BMC filtration is part of our GR86 and BRZ turbo-kit applications and our first-generation FR-S, BRZ and Toyota 86 kits. We chose an established performance-filter manufacturer with a washable cotton design and a documented history in professional racing.
The turbocharger may be the centerpiece, but the filter sits at the entrance to the intake. Its construction, fit and maintenance deserve attention too.
A Subaru connection.
A wider racing history.
BMC states that its relationship with Subaru Tecnica International began in 2015. Its agreement through 2025 identified the BRZ GT300 in SUPER GT and the WRX Nürburgring Challenge program, with filters developed for those race cars. [1]
For BRZ and GR86 enthusiasts, that is a specific connection to the manufacturer behind the filter in their TR intake.

BMC records the start of its filter design and supply cooperation with Scuderia Ferrari in 1995. [2]
BMC's 2024-2026 partnership announcement describes Huracán GT3 and Super Trofeo intake projects. [3]
Historical BMC literature includes Porsche among the racing marques it supplied. [4]
These relationships belong to BMC. Race-car filters and the aftermarket conical filter in a TR kit are developed for their respective applications; the racing teams do not thereby endorse Tomioka Racing.
Consider the whole system.

The filter is one component in a complete turbo build. The intake connection, intercooler, fuel system and calibration must suit the intended use.
Choose the correct kit for your vehicle generation, then discuss fuel, transmission and power goals with your installer or tuner.

Power output depends on the complete setup and calibration. Filter brand alone does not establish horsepower gains.
Performance starts with the details.

Our first-generation DCBB kit listing identifies the BMC FBSA70-110. Its manufacturer specifications are listed below. Confirm the supplied model for your exact kit before buying a replacement. [5] [6]
| Filter material | Oiled cotton gauze |
|---|---|
| Flange inside diameter | 70 mm |
| Base outside diameter | 152 mm |
| H1 / H2 dimensions | 112 / 155 mm |
| Serviceability | Washable and reusable |
Does a new BMC filter need more oil?
No. BMC supplies its filters pre-oiled. Follow the manufacturer's instructions when cleaning and re-oiling the filter later. [8]
Can an oiled filter affect the MAF sensor?
BMC warns that excess oil can leave the element and damage the airflow sensor. Correct servicing matters; avoid over-oiling. [7]
Is the filter reusable?
The FBSA70-110 is washable. Inspect the element, sealing surfaces and mounting, and use BMC's current care instructions. [6] [7]
Which TR turbo kit should I choose?
Choose the application for your vehicle generation. Send TR your vehicle year, transmission, available fuel and power goal to discuss the build.
Build with the right components.
